Home Remedies, Metabolism and Weight Loss – What’s it all Mean

Boosting Metabolism is Very Important to Weight Loss

Metabolism refers to the chemical processes occurring within a living cell or organism that are necessary for the maintenance of life. You can have a high metabolism which is good for weight loss or you can have a slow metabolism which makes it harder to lose weight. The secret is to increase your metabolism, which is something within your control.

A great way to help you lose weight is to choose a day, once a week, where you eat whatever you want and don’t follow your diet.  When you’ve been dieting for a while you might notice that you hit a plateau.  By eating whatever you want once a week, you actually end up boosting your metabolism.

If you’re trying to lose weight, you’ll have a much easier time if you exercise. Exercise keeps your body’s metabolism from going into a deep dive, which is especially important for people as they age. The key is to find a physical activity that you really enjoy and go for it. Love to dance? Sign up for a dance class or the like. Love to ride a bike? Find a way to bike to work or to the store. Even those who don’t love exercise – and there are a lot of us out there – can find ways to work physical movement into our lives in an enjoyable way.

Surprisingly, it takes much less exercise than most people think to help keep one’s weight down.  Many of us have difficulty working exercise into our days.  But if you get off one train stop early, or park a bit farther from the grocery store, you’re giving your body a little workout every time you move, which boosts your metabolism.  So walking just a mile or two over the course of a day can keep those extra ten pounds from creeping up.

Lose weight by taking the long way every time. Assuming you have no mobility issues, taking the stairs will help keep your metabolism moving throughout the day. If you live within walking distance of the market, you can also try walking during your errands. This burns calories and helps the environment at the same time!

When losing weight you may want to try to switch to green tea in lieu of sodas or sugary drinks. Green tea does contain caffeine so if concurrently you are cutting your intake of caffeine opt for decaffeinated green tea. Green tea can help raise your metabolism and has many useful antioxidants that help your immune system.

How Do You Increase Your Metabolism

A good way to lose weight is to spread out your meals each day.  Eating more frequently will raise your metabolism and it’ll also prevent you from feeling hungry.  By eating more often, you’ll be less likely to snack on unhealthy foods because you just won’t be hungry.

A great tip to live healthier is to consume five or six small meals a day instead of the typical three meals. Studies have shown that eating smaller meals more often throughout the day will help you stay at your ideal weight because it boosts your metabolism and prevents you from overeating.

In order to lose weight properly, be sure to eat enough calories per day.  Starvation diets of sorts are extremely bad for your body for many reasons.  One such reason is that without food intake, your body will slow down its metabolism and attempt to hang onto the energy that you have already stored in the form of fat.  This type of “diet” also leads to binge eating and a sure way to gain the weight back quickly once you do resume normal eating.

Drink coffee to suppress your appetite. Some people think that drinking coffee speeds your metabolism. Studies have found that this might not be entirely true. It does, however, work to suppress hunger and food cravings. If you are worried about your caffeine intake, try drinking decaf instead. It has the same benefits.

Splurge once a week. That’s right, order that pizza and eat that ice cream at least one time a week. Why? For two reasons: first, your body’s metabolism will kick into high gear when it realizes that there will be fluctuations in what you’re eating; and secondly, you’ll discover that it doesn’t taste as good to you as it once did, and you can’t eat as much as you used to. You’ll see how far you’ve come.

Everyone loses weight differently. Don’t compare your weight loss to other people. We all lose weight at a different rate, as it is down to a person’s metabolism. The key is to find what works for you. Find a diet and stick to it. Ignore everyone around you, and concentrate on yourself. Bear in mind that when you read about ‘average’ weight loss, that’s exactly what it is – weight loss for the average person. Who wants to be average?!! Embrace your body and be happy with how you are losing the weight.
